Sift together the baking soda, orrisroot, and sea salt into a large bowl.
2. In a spice mill, powder the dulse and kelp and add to dry ingredients.
3. Heat the distilled water to boiling, then pour over the dry ingredients.
4. Stir thoroughly.
To Use:1. Wear a shirt with a fairly low neckline for easy access to your neck and chin.
2. Moisturize the jaw, chin, neck, and cheek area of your face with a light moisturizer or vegetable oil. Dab your face with a cloth to remove any exc3ess oil or moisturizer.
3. Using a wooden spoon, apply the mixture to the jaw, chin, neck, and cheeks.
4. Immediately wrap the sheets or gauze snugly first around the neck, then from the chin around the head several times, to just below the eyes. Next, wrap sheet or gauze up over the top of the head and under the china few times to secure.
5. Relax and be quiet until the mixture and sheets become dry and tight (approx. 30 minutes). No talking--this will stretch the sheets and keep you from getting the results you desire.
6. Rinse your face and neck with the coldest water you can bear. Notice the surprising softening effects on your skin.

Mediterainian Secret

The surprising, easy formula is particularly good for lightening age spots, resurfacing and refining dry, flaky skin, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles (with continued use), and evening out skin tone.
Natural acids accelerate the removal of the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing fresher, younger skin. The formula only calls for two easy-to-obtain ingredients--and I just had to laugh when I saw one of them, I was so surprised!
Here is the Mediterranean secret:
Lactic acid in yogurt and tartaric acid in chianti wine are the secrets that help Mediterranean women have beautiful skin!

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup chianti wine1 cup fresh, thick, plain yogurt
1. Whip wine and yogurt together in a medium-sized bowl. Store any unused portion in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

2. Application can be a bit messy, so it’s best to do this standing in the bathtub or shower stall. Rub the mixture gently on the face as well as on rough heels, elbows, and hands. Rest for 5-15 minutes and then rinse off with water that has a splash of chianti added to it. Pat dry. Traditionally, Italian women follow this treatment with a small amount of olive oil rubbed into the skin as a moisturizer.
heavily scented candles natural skincare

Egyptian Hair Removal

Body sugaring is a method for removing body hair that is a cheap, homemade alternative to waxing (or shaving). The theory behind body sugaring is that the hair is removed by the root, and when it grows back there will be less of it, and it will be softer and not stubbly as it is if a razor had been used.

Body sugaring is done by making a paste of sugar, water, and lemon juice that has been heated to the softball candy stage.
After you have let the paste cool enough so that it won't burn, you spread it on your skin, cover it with cotton strips of cloth, and then rip the cloth off like one does a bandaid. Most find sugaring less painful than waxing.

INGREDIENTS
2 cups sugar 1/4 cup lemon juice ¼ cup water
Equipment: Candy thermometer
Combine the ingredients in a heavy saucepan, and heat on low using a candy thermometer. Watch the mixture very carefully so that it doesn't boil over. Heat the mixture to 250 F on the candy thermometer; this is the hardball candy stage.
Remove from the heat and let cool enough to pour into a jar without breaking or melting the jar. (Note that this jar will be reheated in the future. Make sure it is safe for whatever for of reheating you plan to do -- in the microwave, or in a pan of water. Rip clean cotton fabric in 1" inch strips. Make sure the cotton isn't too coarsely woven.

This next step is very critical: let the mixture cool enough so that it won't burn your skin. Test the mixture on the palm of your hand, knowing that is much tougher than the sensitive skin under your arms.

Using a dull knife or Popsicle stick, spread the cooled sugar onto your skin. Cover with the cloth strips, let set for a few minutes, and then rip off quickly as you would a bandaid.
In the future you can reheat the mixture to a warm and not hot temperature (see above), and reuse. Note that reheating will thicken the paste.

AHA Skin Care

Alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) skin care products are easy to make at home because they are made of fruit and other ingredients we may have in the frig or kitchen cupboards.

SOLUTION: Fruit acids are great for the skin because they loosen the glue between dead skin cells, and the cells fall away, leaving the face very smooth and soft. You'll be amazed at how easy it is to produce fabulous results for your skin that you would imagine only the most expensive and sophisticated products you could buy could do. Not only that, but AHAs are found in fruit and vegetables you may already have in your kitchen or growing in your garden, so you don?t need to worry about any synthetic chemicals that may cause harm. The famed beauty Cleopatra unknowingly used the benefit of AHAs on her skin when she bathed in milk. Try any of the following fruit acids, but always take care to avoid your eyes. Avoid using these homemade peels if your skin is sunburned, and before going into the sun.

Malic acid: Apples, vinegar, applesauce, cider Lactic acid: Buttermilk, yogurt, powdered skim milk, sour cream, blackberries, tomatoes Tartaric Acid: Grapes, grape juice, wine, cream of tartar Citric Acid: Citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, grapefruit, and orange Glycolic acid: Sugar cane

All you need is about one half a teaspoon of liquid per face cleansing. You can freshly squeeze the juice of one lemon, for example, and refrigerate the leftovers for the rest of the week. Just dab some of the juice onto your fingers and pat on your face. Leave on for 10 minutes or so before rinsing. If you are in a rush, just cut a grape or strawberry in half-whatever you happen to have on hand-and rub it over your skin; let the juice set for a few minutes, and then rinse.

Cucumber Toner

Cucumbers have the same pH as the skin, and its juice is very softening and emollient. Apply to pores for 20 minutes

Benzoin-cucumber lotion is an even more effective modern adaptation for large pores. Grate and mash (or whir in an electric blender) 1 cucumber. Strain into 1 cup of rose water and stir in 1 tablespoon tincture of benzoin. Refrigerate and apply with a cotton ball after each daily cleansing.

Stir 2 tablespoons dry oatmeal into 1/4 cup buttermilk. Cover and let stand overnight. Strain off the liquid and smooth it over your face. Wait for 20 minutes, rinse off with cool water, rub with an ice cube, and then blot dry. Buttermilk salt is easier to prepare. Make a paste from buttermilk and table salt. Work into enlarged-pore areas and then rinse with warm water. Repeat several times a week

Oatmeal and Honey mask is a gentle way to cleanse and clear pores for the sensitive yet oily skin.
Mix 1/2 cup oatmeal with enough honey to form wet mix and gently rub on face covering all oily spots then leave on for 5 minutes before rinsing in cold water. Gentle enough to use three times a week.

Natural astringents are cold teabags, cucumber, lemon (use in small doses) Tea tree oil to name a few choose and use as a regular toner.

Dry skin and acne

I just found this very interesting article which states that adult acne may not be simply from oily skin but the exact opposite dehydrated skin!

To read more about this check it out here and let me know what you think.

Scrubs

Scruba Dub Dub!

Scrubs are a fun way to re-energize your skin. They are easy to make, smell devine and are useful for many differant skin conditions.
Winter, Summer, Spring or Autumn there's one to suit all skin types, all seasons all problems.
Try one now.
Granular exfoliant options:
Salt: You can use sea salt, kosher salt, epsom salts or just plain old table salt. I like to use table salt because it is cheaper and smaller grains mean you don't have to grind it yourself. Larger chunks of salt have irregular edges and are too scratchy for the skin so if you decide to use a larger salt be sure to grind it in a blender, food processor or coffee mill. All salts will have detoxifying and muscle-relaxing properties. The problem with salt is it will sting if you have any minor cuts or scratches you are not aware of. For this reason, never use a salt scrub after shaving, it will not feel nice! Also, in general the act of shaving is exfoliating (removing dead skin cells) so if you exfoliate before you shave you will get a closer shave and cut down on skin irritation. Also, the oil from the scrub can be used instead of shaving cream and will lubricate the blades of your razor. If you do not have sensitive skin you can use a sugar scrub after shaving if you want to keep the oil on your skin and skip moisturizer.
Sugar: You can use brown sugar, white (granulated) sugar or natural cane sugar. White sugar is probably the cheapest but will work the same as natural cane sugar. Brown sugar is gentler and has a warmer, yummier fragrance. Sugar scrubs in general are gentler than salt scrubs and don't really have muscle-relaxing qualities but the act of scrubbing in a circular motion does increase circulation. Coffee: The information I obtained about coffee as a topical scrub surprised me. Coffee is granular and feels nice on the skin but the caffeine has added benefits. Applied topically coffee helps to redistribute fat cells and decrease the formation of cellulite. It also acts as a vasorestrictor, tightening and shrinking blood vessels thereby helping eliminate varicose veins. It has been used for years in spas in Hawaii and on the coast of Bali.
Others: Oatmeal is very gentle and won't aggressively exfoliate but it is great if you have dry, itchy skin. Flax seed is also very lubricating for dry skin. Crushed almonds are very exfoliating as well but may be too much for sensitive skin. Yogurt and milk contain lactic acid which will dissolve skin cells and act as a non-granular exfoliant.
Moisturizing Options:Once you pick your grain of choice you are ready to add in your oil. You will add enough oil to turn your grains into the perfect slushy mixture. Not too oily but not too dry, either. The mixture may separate in between uses so be sure to stir gently before you apply it. You can use many kinds of oil, including jojoba oil, safflower oil, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil, even olive or vegetable oil. I would not recommend mineral oil (baby oil) because this will not penetrate into the skin like the other oils will. Mineral oil is pore-clogging and once it evaporates your skin may be left looking dryer than before you used it. Once you massage the mixture into your skin and rinse, the grains will be gone and the oil will make your skin soft and hydrated. If you don't like the feel of oil on your skin you can dip a loofah (one on a stick will work be the most convenient) into the oil then into your grain mixture. (you will have already put your fragrance and/or herbs or flowers into the grains) This will impart only a minimal amount of oil onto your skin but still be effective. If your skin is dry or itchy, avocado is very soothing and moisturizing and can be applied alone, mashed into a paste or added to your scrub. Save the pit for a natural massage tool to soothe achey or tense muscles.
Fragrance Options:Your fragrance options are pretty much unlimited. You can use essential (aromatherapy) oils for an added emotional benefit or your favorite perfume oil. Perfume oils are too irritating for the face but are fine for the body. Possible oils:
Vanilla: Great especially in the coffee or brown sugar scrub.Orange, lime, tangerine or lemon:

For an uplifting effect.Rosemary, eucalyptus or peppermint:

For clearing out the sinuses and stimulating the body Cinnamon or clove:

For improving circulation and adding a spicy kick to your scrub.Rose, jasmine or ylang-ylang:
for a romantic floral scrub.Geranium:
For balancing your mood.Lavender:
For promoting relaxation. You can mix and match and create your own personal favorite blend!

Herb and flower options:Adding herbs and flowers to your scrub will make it look more attractive, add additional exfoliation and can have other benefits as well.
For example:
Shredded ginger will aid exfoliation. Linden flower is great for soothing frayed nerves.Comfrey is good for those with minor skin irritations.Yarrow is a rnusle-soothing Chinese herb.Lemon peel helps alleviate lethargy.Orange peel or St. John's Wort helps ease minor depression. Lavender flowers will help promote relaxation. Ginseng will help energize and increase circulation.
Other Add-Ins:
Bentonite or kaolin (Cosmetic-grade) clay will help detoxify and purify the skin as will seaweed. Honey will add moisture and shredded soap will add eliminate the need for using additional soap either before or after your scrub. Baking soda will add a pleasant fizziness and help clarify the skin.
Saving Money:
Scrubs can be pretty costly. Usually scrubs come in nice glass or plastic jars which add greatly to the price. You can find your own decorative jars and definitely if you have a scrub in a nice jar at home just rinse it and reuse it with your own exfoliating concoction!

heavily scented candles natural skincare

More Pimple Help

Blackhead Wash
16 ounces powdered oatmeal
8 ounces powdered almond meal
4 ounces powdered orrisroot
1 ounce powdered castile soap
Use 1 tablespoon of this mixture with a little hot water to make a paste. Why do you deserve to be spoiled? What's so special about you?
I believe everyone needs spoiling whether that be a busy mum, daughter, son, father or pop :-)
We all need nurturing and when we give ourselves this time out or a treat we are setting ourselves up for a healthier happier life for not only ourselves but for those around us as it is impossible to continually be giving, giving, giving of ourselves; before you know it there is little left to give except maybe a tired and grumpy self who has no energy for fun, for hugs or for your partner.
Women are particularly guilty of this and often find it hard to accept that they do deserve nurturing, pampering or just time alone.
If you allow yourself this time you will become a much more open, caring and happy individual as you will have renewed your spirit therefore there is more to give.

Why not set aside time this week for a purely indulgent bath, try some of the free recipes on this site and allow yourself to unwind. To indulge your senses and be at peace within your self. Envisage a more relaxed you, a calmer, happier self smiling and enjoying life. You are deserving and there is no reason why you cannot spoil yourself or let others spoil you. Revel in it and know it is deserved.

Natural baby Care

Olive oil can be used on baby's dry skin. If at any time you feel stinging or discomfort wash off immediately with warm water.

Acne Tonic with Basil
2 to 3 teaspoons dried basil leaves1 C. boiling waterSteep basil leaves in water for 10 to 20 minutes. Cool, then apply to face with a white cotton ball.Blackhead Remover Mask 1/2 cup fuller's earth 1 tsp. tincture of benzoin distilled witch hazel
Combine all ingredients and stir thoroughly. Apply the mask to your skin. Let mask dry and harden - about 30-40 minutes. Soak a small hand towel in warm water and lay it across your face.
When the mask starts to soften up, gently rub it with the towel in a circular motion. Rinse with plenty of warm water.

Egg White Mask
This is simple and quite frugal. There have been many instances of people reporting excellent results from trying it.

All you need to do is separate the yolk from the egg whites. Then whip the egg whites until it is nice and frothy. Apply it to your clean face (using clean hands). Leave on for approximately 20 minutes and wash off with warm water.

The result? Tightening of the skin, clearing of red spots.
Possible side effects? If you’re allergic to eggs, of course, avoid this one.

Egg Yolk Mask
Egg Yolks contain Vitamin A which is good for scarring. To attempt this method of acne treatment, whip up an egg yolk, apply it to your skin for 20 minutes. Wash off.

Baking Soda Mask
This is so easy to make and can work wonders if your skin likes it. (Remember, not every cause of acne is the same, so you need to try different remedies and masks until you find the ones that work for you.)
All you need are two ingredients. Baking Soda (NOT baking powder) and water.
Mix a little together in your hands after washing your face with a mild cleanser and apply gently to your skin. Once you've coated your face with the baking soda and water mix, let it sit while you do other things around the house, or relax and read a book.
Rinse the baking soda film off your face and feel how soft and clear it feels. If your skin enjoys this recipe, and your acne improves, then you may try it several times a week to help clear your acne.

Technorati Tags:
heavily scented candles natural skincare

Oily Skin Cleansers

Lets face it we don't all have perfect skin!
So here are a few recipes to help you on your way to that glowing from within beauty you've always wanted.

Cleansers

Oily Skin

Buttermilk and Fennel Cleansing Milk

1/2 cup buttermilk2 Tbsp crushed fennel seeds
Heat the milk and fennel seeds in top of double boiler for 30 minutes. It is cheaper to manufacture a chemical based preservative for instance than an organic one.
Chemicals such as SLS and SLE'S otherwise known as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate can cause anything from skin irritation, burning and exzema to depression, laboured breathing, diarrehea, eye damage, severe skin irritation, corrosion and even death.
Now how your body reacts specifically to these chemicals will vary widely but is it really worth the risk?

When you consider it has been proven Sls and Sle's can be known to cause malformation orf the eye in children and considering the most common place these harsh chemicals are found are shampoo and conditioner???? Why risk it! They not only taste better but are better having much higher quantities of minerals and vitamins than the man made mass produced, stored on the shelves too long type you buy from the supermarket.

Why do we need to have everything NOW! rather than wait and enjoy the process it takes to achieve these quality products?

I do not understand.
Have we really lost the wonder of life? Big questions i know but ones i wish more people would think about. What exactly are we teaching our children these days? What are we leaving them with a planet devoid of vegetation; a heart devoid of pleasure?

I think if we not only teach our kids but also ourselves to enjoy the nature we are provided with but to actually relish it, to love it, thrive with it and embrace the processes and journey as such that it requires to grow a truly natural tomatoe for instance or to create from scratch a beautiful hand lotion or healthy cleaning product we will all be healthier for it and happy also.

Something as simple as making a face mask from home grown produce or whipping up a beautiful scented room spray can be so rewarding and so unique in todays market place. We can spoil loved ones with the pleasure of nature, save our resources and indulge in a much higher quality product. Reduse the packaging or reuse and we are benefitting thousands of people by our actions and truly living in the here and now.

Surely you have heard about the effects of growth hormones in chicken and the side effects created by particular medications but have you ever stopped to think just how dangerous the chemicals are in for instance your shampoo? SLS or Sodium Leureth Sulfate among other chemicals can cause serious damage to sensitives skin so used over the long term what else is it doing? What does it do to normal skin? Itchy dry scalp, dandruff, irritation, hair loss etc these are just some of the known symtoms of irritation caused by these chemicals yet rather than find a healthier alternative we buy them for convenience.

Happiness comes from living a genuine life so why not start by genuinely caring about what we put into and onto our bodies.
Why not try some home made recipes for cleaning products as well as beauty and skincare needs.
There are many sites with recipes and ideas along with places for purchasing goods.

Help save the planet by saving yourself first.
For Great FREE Recipes click here!
Organic Materials here
         Healthy Products here

heavily scented candles natural skincare

Gotta Love Masks

I LOVE masks!

If you've ever tried them you know their benefits, if not your missing out big time!

Try one of these below

Fruit Crush Mask

APPLICATIONS
This gentle cleansing mask purifies oily and blemished skins.

INGREDIENTS
1. 1 tbsp pineapple
2. 1 tbsp paw paw
3. 2 tbsp kaolin

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Some good choices are coconut, olive, sesame or jojoba oil.

Basic Bath Oil Blend This is a well-balanced oil blend for most skin types. It is nourishing and soothing and it is not too heavy or light. It provides an excellent base for the Aromatherapy Bath Oils that follow. This oil blend may also be used directly on the skin.

INGREDIENTS1 1/2 oz. olive oil 3 oz. almond oil 1 oz. sesame oil 1 oz. canola oil 1/2 oz. wheat germ oil
Pour oils in a jar, cap with a tight fitting lid and shake well. Add 1 oz. oil per bath. Makes 7 oz.
Basic Aromatherapy Bath Oil You can create a wide assortment of aromatherapy oils for the bath by adding essential oils to the Basic Bath Oil Blend just described, or to any other carrier oil of your choice. These oils can also be used for massage. Use 1-2 teaspoons of Aromatherapy Bath Oil per bath. Note that the concentrated essential oils make the carrier oil stronger, so less oil is needed for the bath.

INGREDIENTS15-30 drops essential oil of choice 1 oz. Basic Bath Oil Blend or other carrier oil of choice
Fill small-mouth jar with carrier oil, leaving 1/8 inch of space at the top. Add the essential oils drop by drop, cap the jar with a tight-fitting lid and shake well. Use 1-2 teaspoons of oil per bath.

Directions: Blend the oils together and store in an amber or cobalt glass bottle. Do not use all 2 ounces of bath oil in one bath. After you have drawn your bathwater, add about 1/4 ounce (7-8ml) of the bath oil blend to your bath water. If you intend to use this bath oil with children, ensure that the oils that you have selected are safe for administration to children and use a smaller amount of the blend in the child's bathwater.
Mix well to ensure that the blend has dispersed well in the tub and hop on in. It's best to add the bath oil just before getting in the tub instead of while the water is running so that the oils don't evaporate before you get into the tub. Using this bath oil blend is safer than adding pure EOs directly to the bath water. This is because the EOs can settle in one spot on your skin and cause irritation.

Technorati Tags:
heavily scented candles natural skincare

! ADHD and Aromatherapy !

Hello readers; Today i would like to talk about the use of Aromatherapy on children with ADHD or ADD.

My personal involvement with this issue is a neice with ADD and a best friends son with ADHD.
I have watched these children be medicated for some time now with varying degrees of success. Given that this is a very big problem in society today i am a little adverse to believing a pill will solve all. I understand this is sometimes the only way to cope with these kids but i worry what it is doing to them and what effects will be felt in say 10 - 20yrs time.

I have been using Aromatherapy for some time now and have discovered the success of this alternative type therapy being used in the case of ADD & ADHD sufferers. Please read this excerpt from an article i discovered.

Aromatherapy can produce dramatic results in children with ADHD and ADD. For example, when the effectiveness of Ritalin begins to wear off, a child may experience positive results from treating their condition with a synergistic blend of essential oils. Using a blend of age appropriate amounts of Lavender, Chamomile, Sandalwood, and Rose can encourage calmness, balance, grounding, dispel anger and promote self-love. Behavioral changes can include an increased ability to take direction and significantly decreased aggression. A child can become focussed, happy, relaxed, open, approachable and loving. With success like this, it may be possible to consider taking the child off his medication or reducing his dosage. Also, with parental support, a child can learn can apply the blend themselves.

to read more follow this link. Article
Feel free to leave your thoughts.

Technorati Tags:
heavily scented candles natural skincare

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://heavenlyscented.blogspot.com/2006/08/adhd-and-aromatherapy.html' title='! Strain liquid. Mix liquid with milk and add to bath water. Especially nice after a long day.

Bath Powder Recipe

1/2 cup cornstarch
2 Tablespoon arrowroot powder
2 Tablespoon baking soda
A few drops of essential oils of your preference
PREPARATION:
Combine ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Let stand a few days and then sift through a flour sifter. Pour into a powder shaker/container.
NOTE:
The above quantities are provided as a guideline. Basically, you want to use equal parts of baking soda and cornstarch, adding about 20 drops of fragrance oil for each cup of the mixture. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and mix together until thoroughly blended. If you're making large batches, you might want to cover your nose/mouth so you don't breath in too much of the powder. Then, if desired, add fragrance oil and stir until thoroughly blended.
If you're using cornstarch, you'll probably want to sift it through a screen, to break up clumps and fluff it up. Push the mixture of oil/cornstarch through the screen and mix with the rest of the cornstarch powder. You may need to repeat the filtering process a few times.
Let the whole mixture sit in a sealed jar overnight. This allows the scent to permeate the whole batch. Be sure to let dry before packaging.

Technorati Tags:
heavily scented candles natural skincare

Bath Salts

Basic bath salts

1 cup Epsom salts
10-20 drops fragrance oil
1 cup sea salt
10 drops food coloring

Place the salts in a large bowl and mix well. Please remember they are NEVER to be ingested! and should always be diluted down when using on sensitive skin and infants.

What oils safe to use on infants?

From the moment they are born, infants can benefit from essential oils. However, due to their sensitive little body systems, you must be careful with the essential oils that you use with infants.
Generally speaking, you want to dilute essential oils used on infants more than you would for the same product on children or adults.

To treat very dry skin for infants put 2 drops of Lavender, 2 drops of Chamomile, and 1 drop of Geranium into 1 ounce of a base lotion.

For children you could increase Lavender to 6, Chamomile to 4, and Geranium to 2.

For adults, the dry skin blend would contain 10 drops Lavender, 7 drops of Chamomile, and 4 drops of Geranium.

The following oils are safe to use with newborns: Chamomile Roman, Chamomile German, Geranium, Yarrow, and Dill.

From 2 months old on, you can also use Mandarin, Eucalyptus, Coriander, and Neroli. After 6 months you can add Palma Rosa, Calendula, Grapefruit, Ginger, and Tea Tree.

Please be safe with your oils and keep them out of reach of children and diluted when using.Consult your doctor prior to use especially if your infant has any health concerns.

Technorati Tags:
heavily scented candles natural skincare

Heavily Scented WELCOME!

Hello everyone!
Welcome to Heavenly Scented a blog dedicated to scented products and their various uses.
I will be posting recipes you can make at home for heavily scented products that are natural, aromatherapy based and any or all variation on this.

I want everyone to be able to experience the luxury of resort style products in their own home at a much lower cost.

Why pay big dollars for body products when you can create them yourself?
Why pay for packaging?
Here at Heavenly Scented you can create anything from scrubs, moisturisers, lotions, shower gels and powders to soaps, candles and treats.
So why not indulge yourself?
